Clinton Township covers a lot of ground, and the housing changes as you move across it.

The southeast side, between Gratiot Avenue and Groesbeck Highway near the Mount Clemens border, is the oldest part. Postwar and 1960s houses on smaller lots, plaster in places, original hardwood, compact bathrooms, and detached or single-car garages.

The middle of the township, off Garfield Road, Cass Avenue and Moravian Drive, is subdivision country from the 1970s and 1980s. Brick colonials and ranches, attached two-car garages, full basements under almost all of them, and mature trees that have had fifty years to grow over the roofline.

Along Hall Road, near The Mall at Partridge Creek and Macomb Community College Center Campus, the newest housing is attached: condos and townhomes with more tile and LVP than carpet, shared entries, and association rules about hours and access.

What the Clinton River and the basement belt do to a house

The Clinton River runs across the township, and the parks along it, including George George Memorial Park, sit right against residential streets. Homes in that corridor take more fine dust and more pollen on sills, screens and window tracks than the rest of the township.

Basements are the other constant. Nearly every subdivision home off Garfield has a full basement, and the finished ones hold humidity from June through August. Winter on Gratiot, Groesbeck and Hall Road
